About EAR-MHEWS Project

The project “Empowering Albanian Resilience co-implementing a Multi-Hazard Early Warning System Nationwide (EAR-MHEWS)” aims to establish a fit-for-purpose Multi-Hazard Early Warning System that, for the first time in Albania, addresses multiple climate hazards in a structured, coordinated and integrated manner. The system will have national coverage, while taking into account geographically differentiated risks. Led by the National Civil Protection Agency (NCPA) and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), the project is an integral part of ALBAdapt – Programme for Climate Resilient Urban Development in Albania financed by the Green Climate Fund and the governments of Albania, Germany and Switzerland.

 

About NATO  SPS – CACHE  Project

As part of the cooperation with NATO, and with the aim of enhancing the capacities of the Civil Protection system    in Albania, the initiation and implementation of the NICS system (CACHE – Command And Control for Health and    Environmental Security) has been made possible. This project is funded by the SPS office at NATO, and for the      first time, Albania is leading a project together with teams from Georgia and the United States.

the National Civil Protection Agency (NCPA) and the Swedish Civil Contingencies
Agency (MCF), the implementation of the project “REAGO – Enhancing
Capacity for Preparedness and Community Organization” has been launched,

The "Strengthening Resilience in Albania" (RESEAL) Project

The “Strengthening Resilience in Albania” (RESEAL) project supports the Government of Albania’s efforts to improve the country’s disaster risk management system. The RESEAL project supports the civil protection system at both local and national levels, as well as the National Civil Protection Agency, for a comprehensive and effective management of the Civil Protection system in Albania. Funded by the Government of Sweden and the Government of Portugal, the project is implemented by UNDP Albania and supports the country’s efforts to become a full member of the EU Civil Protection Mechanism.

PRONEWS program

“Flood Prevention/Preparedness and Disaster Management” aims to increase Albania’s flood resilience by strengthening the national early warning system and improving flood prevention in line with EU best practices. Tangible results of this project are Albania’s membership in the European Flood Awareness System/EFAS and the rehabilitation of hydro-meteorological stations.

TO BE READY project

The objective of this project in the framework of the IPA CBC Italy-Montenegro-Albania is to improve the conditions for increasing the security of the region between Italy, Albania and Montenegro from natural disasters and various disasters by implementing cross-border initiatives to create a bridge link between participating regions in order to adopt common fire and flood intervention strategies.

Project "Improved Forest FIRE Preparedness in Greece and Albania"

In the framework of the IPA CBC Greece-Albania, with the leading partner for Albania and Greece, the Municipality of Berat aims to purchase vehicles for extinguishing fires in urban terrain and in forests (4×4) and joint training programs on the fight against forest fires.

Project "EU Support for Flood Prevention and Forest Fire Risk Management in the Western Balkans and Turkey - IPAFF"

Its beneficiaries are Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia and Turkey.

This project aims to develop Flood Risk Management Plans based on the best practices of EU Member States and in accordance with the EUFD as well as the development of procedures and agreements for the inclusion of early warnings in local / central response plans to emergencies.

The Reseal project in collaboration with UNDP aims to draft a report for the Assessment of the capacities of the Disaster Risk Management system, the Development of the National Disaster Risk Reduction Platform and support for strengthening the capacities of the National Agency.
