Flooding

What to do before the flood:

• Practice emergency and evacuation plans with the family to always be ready.
• Prepare a package with food, water and some spare clothes for all family members.
• Always keep the first aid box in safe places together with important documents to take with you in a moment of danger.
• Place electrical equipment and emergency food in places and upper floors of the building where they cannot be affected by the flood

What to do during the flood:

• To leave the house that is in danger and when we cannot climb to the highest part of it.
• To help children, the elderly and the sick to escape from drowning.
• To stay away from dangerous places such as wells, canals, water bodies, as the momentum of the water can take us away, endangering our lives.
• Always be careful and do not walk through rushing waters because we may fall, get stuck or various objects may damage our body.
• When we are notified of evacuation (movement), we must listen carefully and follow the advice and instructions of the authorities that manage emergencies and immediately follow the route they have determined for evacuation.
• If we are driving, we stop and park in a place that is not affected by the flood.

What to do after floods:

• Return to the residence after the emergency managers have ordered.
• Do not touch any electrical switch without being convinced of the security of the network.
• To check the collapse of walls, stairs, doors or various water discharge channels and to notify the authorities about the various damages to the apartment.
• Never use tap water for drinking as it may be contaminated. When necessary, we must boil it.
• Do not use food wet from the flood because we can get sick.
• Use circumstantial tools to clean the apartment of water or when you have the opportunity we can use hand pumps or motor pumps, assisted by specialists.
